View of the original joint LNWR and MR Goods shed prior to the construction of the offices and other LNWR goods buildings

View of the original joint LNWR and MR Goods shed prior to the construction of the offices and other LNWR goods buildings. Another view of Coventry Goods yard can be seen in this photograph 'lnwrcov3728'. The joint LNWR and MR Goods shed seen on the was later extended towards Warwick Road as can be seen in image 'lnwrcov554c'. Subsequent to the photograph being taken, the MR's goods shed was extended towards the road and the LNWR built its two storey structure which ran parallel to Warwick Road and housed stables beneath. See image lnwrcov558 for more information. The view of the Railway Inn and the original 1838 station building, both fronting on to Warwick Road, demonstrate that this was still a very rural area up to the 1890s. The boundary of Warwick Road opposite both of these buildings is a hedge whilst the fields currently being grazed by cattle was soon the location of more sidings and the Goods yard foreman's house. The photographer must have been standing on the pathway that led to the footbridge over the London to Birmingham line which was later extended over the expanded goods yard.
