Coventry was the home of the bicycle at the turn of the century when the "safety" bike resulted in a massive explosion in sales. Bicycles were dispatched both by goods train and brake vans on passenger trains. This view shows the delivery of bicycles to Coventry Goods Yard by horse drawn vehicle. The bicycle's light weight meant it only required a basic frame to be provided to protect them from damage. One can only guess what today's traffic police would say if they saw this on today's roads.
