Ex-MR 3F 0-6-0 No 3520 is seen leaving the shed ready to go
on duty on 2nd July 1938. Number 3520 was built to a MR class 1873 design by
Neilson & Co in January 1897 and lasted in service until withdrawn from
Bedford shed in December 1959, stored at Derby works before being scrapped by
Doncaster plant in September 1960
The turn of the century was a time when motive power was
critically short on the Midland Railway resulting in outside contractors
undertaking a number of contracts including the USA locomotive builder
Baldwin's who provide a number of short lived 2-6-0 locomotives - see image
'lnwrbns_pg471'.
