Bob Pixton in his excellent book "Birmingham-Derby - Portrait of a Famous Route" records that the above photograph was taken in the same month that British Railways re-coded Saltley from the long familiar 21A to 2E. Compared to the earlier photograph seen in image 'mrsalt436' the ravages of the long war years have gone and the shed is much cleaner with the turntable pit now painted white. 15th September 1963
