Looking towards Lifford from the Northfield end of the West Suburban lines with the up platform on the left

Looking towards Lifford from the Northfield end of the West Suburban lines with the up platform on the left on 16th September 1956. Prior to the quadrupling Station Road originally crossed line at this point via a level crossing. The up platform marks the end of the goods line. The line on the extreme right is from the sidings seen in image 'mrkn526' where the coaching stock was stored. The point work seen above is called a 'single slip' in railway parlance meaning that at this scissors crossover only one line (in this case the middle line) has the option of two exits. If the right-hand line had the option of turning on to the fast up line then this configuration would be called a 'double slip'.
