Looking towards Ashchurch prior to alterations with an
unknown MR 0-6-0 standing at the head of a up local passenger service. Bob
Essery states that the location of the locomotives lamp holders (used to hold
the lamps displaying the head code) are in their pre-1903 position. The barrow
crossing would have been used by both staff and passengers as there is no
footbridge evident. The down water crane's fire devil (brazier) which was
evident in image 'mre563' is missing which might indicate that it was removed
during the summer period. The advantages of the MR's angled station nameboard
is seen in the view, the name being easily discernible despite looking down the
track. Circa 1904
