View looking towards Birmingham of the reconstruction of Coventry station with a train standing at the original down platform. Even when the station had been substantially demolished and new excavations and building work was underway, a limited passenger traffic still remained in operation. An unidentified ex-LMS 4-6-0 Black 5 stands at the head of a down express train on what was platform 2 whilst the excavation for the track for the new platforms 3 & 4 are underway on the left.

The need for a brake van and locomotive to transport luggage and parcels from one platform to another (as seen in 'lnwrcov642') can be assessed by the number of cases and baskets stacked on the platform. All the structures to the old parcel bay and platform 1 have by now been demolished with the new platform 1 now extended to Warwick Road bridge - later to be further extended beyond the bridge when the new bridge was installed. On the right of the new platform 1 a temporary passenger structure can be seen joining the remains of the original structure housing Wymans Newsagents located in front of the new parcel facility identified by its curved roof.

Other things of note are the grounded coach body used as temporary storage and mess facilities and the temporary footbridge beyond the locomotive. The new platform 4 appears to be partly constructed adjacent to the 5 plank open wagons being used to move both spoil and materials. Finally the original L & B station building on Warwick Road is still evident in the distance.
