View of the hand operated tandem points on the Nechells Gas Works private siding seen on 15th April 1961. The photographer has just walked past the white hut controlling the ground frame (see 'lnwra2311') and is now standing with his back to the main line. The end terrace house is on St Clements Road. Whilst a private siding the standard of track formation would be similar to that found on the main railway's own siding. The points would be operated by the shunter or even the fireman of the locomotive where owned privately. Nechell Gas Works had their own steam locomotives as can be seen in Peckett 0-4-0ST Works No 2081 and diesel Sentinel 0-4-0 Works No 9617.
