Mishaps
Coventry Station: lnwr194
BR Standard 2-6-4T No 8003 has derailed whilst shunting
parcels stocks. This accident would have caused a great headache to control as
the locomotive would be fouling the approach to the up platform. The
locomotive's bogie plus the rear two axles are off the rails so it will not be
a quick job. Up through traffic will be able to pass via the line to the rear
of the men.
Trains for the up platform could possibly access the
platform but only by a convoluted shunting process, namely by travelling on the
up through line and reversing back into the platform. Whether this method was
actually practiced is however pure conjecture on the authors part. The train
will be rerailed by jacking up the wheels and packing timber underneath and
them moving the wheels back on to the rails. As my old boss would say 'Simple.
So what's you problem?'
