Another view of ex-SMJ 0-6-0 No 2311, formerly SMJ No 18, on shed on 8th April 1924. The last two new locomotives to be ordered by the E&WJR in 1907 very nearly did not arrive as the E&WJR had to inform Beyer Peacock that even with hire purchase the railway could not afford their delivery. The formation of the SMJ in 1909 with its new financial arrangement, meant that both locomotives arrived in December 1908 with full and final payment being made in January 1909. The tender of No 2311 was put to use as a water carrier after the locomotive was scrapped in 1927.
