This close up of image 'smjsa65' shows the two signal boxes and trackwork at the west end of the station. The LMS extended the traffic control system pioneered by the MR to the old SMJ line under the area Control office based at Saltley. Initially the control clerk was located in Stratford on Avon's signal box but after he was transferred the stationmaster assumed his responsibilities and consequently spent much of his time in the signal box in order to respond quickly.
