View of the station in E&WJR days with the more
harmonious albeit less useful canopy providing protection to passengers from
inclement weather. The original water crane would have been easier to use than
its later replacement as seen in image 'smjsa44a' as
it long arm would have allowed the 'bag' to be positioned without too much
physical effort. The cage below the wheel on the column supplemented the 'fire
devil' on the left as its small fire would allow the wheel and the arm to be
turned in freezing weather.
