LMS Route: Stratford Midland Junction - The Shakespeare
Route
Stratford on Avon Station: smjsa60
View of the station lying derelict after closure to
passenger traffic in the 1960s. The removal of the over scale 1909 canopy to
the front of the building allows us to see the more refined architecture that
the E&WJR adopted. The polished rails on some of the lines indicates that
the route was still being used albeit to the new junction with the ex-GWR
Stratford upon Avon - Honeybourne line. The new south facing link to the GWR by
the racecourse enabled large iron ore mineral trains to pass between
Nothamptonshire and South Wales.
