This close up of image 'smjsa52' shows the two rear coaches,
both of six-wheel construction, of the early period SMJ train. The passenger
services offered by the E&WJR was not noted as being anything other than
basic reflecting the nature of the community it primarily serviced. The
formation of the SMJ coincided with the new board determined to raise the image
of the railway, in particular to reflect its new association with the Great
Central Railway.
