LMS Route: Stratford Midland Junction - The Shakespeare Route

E&WJR and SMJ - Locomotives and Rolling Stock: smjsa46

Ex-E&WJR 0-6-0 No 2300, formerly SMJ No 2, is seen in Stratford on Avon goods yard marshalling goods wagons on 8th April 1924. Another of the several locomotives purchased from Beyer Peacock by the E&WJR having been built circa 1880 the design was doubled-framed complete with wooden buffer beam. Rebuilt in 1904, No 2300 lasted only a few years in LMS service being withdrawn in 1926 as part of the rationalisation policy. To the left of the locomotive can be seen a rudimentary hand operated crane for lifting heavy loads from wagons.
