LMS Route: Stratford Midland Junction - The Shakespeare
Route
SMJ Locomotives: smjsa45
Ex-MR 1P 2-4-0 No No 96 is seen still wearing MR livery on
8th April 1924 whilst working a goods train, which was not the usual working
for this type of locomotive not least because its traction was limited by
having two large diameter coupled wheels. Number 96 was designed by Deeley as
one of his 890 class and built by the MR at Derby works in May 1873. Number 96
didn't last much longer than most of the SMJ locomotives on the line being
withdrawn and scrapped at Derby works in August 1928.
