This close up of image 'smjfc19' shows the LMS/GWR Joint signal box at the end of a very narrow platform. The platform was always too narrow and at the platform end where the photographer is standing was only two to three feet wide. This was caused by the station being constructed too close to the GWR's cattle pens and it would seem to reflect the hope of the E&WJ Railway that the GWR would at some point cooperate. One can only assume that the E&WJ hoped the GWR would move their down platform from the other side of the level crossing to be adjacent to the E&WJ's up platform.
