LMS Route: Birmingham New Street to Tamworth
Tamworth High Level Station: mrthl447b
This close up of image 'mrthl447' shows the signal box sited
towards the Derby end of the up platform buildings. The first building was the
gentleman's toilets, the second was believed to be the ladies and the others
waiting rooms. The signal box, named 'High Level Signal Box' was opened in
August 1925 and replaced two boxes, one at each end of the station known as
'North' and 'South' signal boxes. The new box built to an LMS design is
cantilevered supported by ornate ironwork and has a 'cat walk' in front of the
windows to assist the signalman in gaining access to keep the windows
clean.
