LMS Route: Birmingham New Street to Tamworth

Looking north towards Derby as a goods train is seen departing the station as an ex-LMS 5MT 4-6-0 passes through on a down express service. The passenger and operational facilities were split between the two platforms, one located at the Derby end of the up platform and the other at the Birmingham end of the down platform. On each platform there were two sets of structures, a brick built building and a timber framed and clad structure located at the opposite end of the same platform. This meant that the down platform's timber framed and clad building (seen on the right) was located opposite the up platform's brick built building. Behind the camera the two types of buildings were mirrored.
