Later view of the signal box showing part of the landing dock visible between the signal box and goods shed now in disrepair. On the LMS 25 feet to 1 inch rating plan, an area on the other side of the landing dock from the photographer and parallel to the siding seen between the two buildings, an area of hard standing was provided as a timber stacking ground. Bob Essery in his book on the line, states that after 14th June 1954 the signal box was only open between 7:00 am and 3:00 pm when the only stopping goods train timetabled to stop the station called. During the other hours the signal were 'switched out' meaning that the two block sections on either side were controlled as one section as was the case when this photograph was taken. To enable this to happen the signalman would leave the signals in the 'off' position (which means with lower quadrant signals the arms are pointing down) when he went off duty, as can be seen above.
