The building was substantial in size being designed to accommodate large numbers of people arriving or leaving at any one time. This was necessary because the number of visitors who frequented Sutton Park, an area of noted beauty, was very high being a popular destination for day visitors from Birmingham. The large central section is a general waiting room with others off it on either side. The Midland Railway would have ensured that when built the building would have had a waiting room reserved for both First Class and Ladies passengers. On the far left is the gentlemen's latrines which as ever was only accessed off the platform. The ladies' facilities would have been accessed off their waiting room.
