LMS Route: Water Orton to Walsall

Looking towards Walsall from the up platform as LMS 4MT No 2482 arrives with a Walsall to New Street local service. The three-coach train forms the 1:45 pm (Saturdays Only) Walsall to Birmingham local stopping train. This photograph of the signal box shows off the typical Midland Railway practice of off-setting the steps that led up to the cabin so that the door was not immediately opposite the top of the steps. This appears to have been a safety feature designed to prevent staff from exiting the door in the dark and falling down the steps.
