LMS Route: Water Orton to Walsall

Looking towards Walsall with LMS 'Stanier' 2-6-4T No 2482 on
the 1.45 pm (Saturdays Only) Walsall to Birmingham local passenger train
arriving at the station's down platform that was situated on the main running
line. The photograph shows the characteristic MR's practice of off-setting the
steps that led up to the signal box's door so that staff had to manoeuvre along
a short landing before entering the cabin. This was a safety feature designed
to prevent staff from exiting from the door in the dark and falling down the
steps.
