The original down platform structure can be seen on the right of the photograph. As the down platform was more used for alighting passengers from New Street trains rather passengers boarding trains to Kings Norton and the South West, it comprised just a basic waiting room and toilet facilities. Passengers accessed the platforms via steps and an underpass at the far end of the platform.
