LMS Route: Birmingham New Street to Tamworth
Saltley Shed: mrsalt60
LMS 8F 2-8-0 No 8647 sporting a 17A shed plate in front of
an unidentified LMS 8F 2-8-0. Note the yard lamppost which has had its original
lighting removed and replaced with a downward pointing lamp shade as well as
having part of the post painted white. Both were precautions adopted during the
Second World War. Number 8647 was built by the Southern Railway at Brighton
works in December 1943. She lasted in service until April 1966 when withdrawn
from Sutton Oak shed to be scrapped in July the same year by J Cashmore of
Great Bridge. 1st December 1946
