An inside view of Saltley shed showing four ex-MR 3F 0-6-0s and an ex-MR 4F 0-6-0 standing around Saltley shed's turntable. The 3Fs were re-numbered by British Railways as Nos 43435, 43674, 43680 and 43620 respectively with 4F No 43949 on the right. Built by Armstrong Whitworth in January 1921, No 43949 was a member of the MR's 3835 class and remained in service until December 1964 when it was withdrawn from Saltley shed to be scrapped in March 1965 by J Cashmore of Great Bridge. Built by Dubbs & Company in 1892 No 43435 was a member of the MR's 1873 class and remained in service for 70 years being withdrawn in April 1962 from Saltley shed to be scrapped at Derby the following month. Classmate No 43674, also a class 1873, was built by Kitson & Co in 1900 and it too was withdrawn from Saltley shed although it was stored at Badnell Warf from August 1959 until it was scrapped by Central Wagon Company of Wigan in September 1960.
