LMS Route: Birmingham New Street to Tamworth

The new mechanised coaling tower, which the LMS introduced at many of its large sheds during the 1930s. The coal wagon was ran to the side of the tower and from there was hoisted directly to the top where it was tipped into one of the bunkers. The bunkers were numbered so that passenger trains, which were always allocated the best quality of coal, would be placed under the right bin on one of the two roads.
