Ex-MR Class 3 4-4-0 No 711 takes water alongside the old coaling stage. This image shows the final stage of the process of coaling, the first being the off loading of the coal and being stacked in piles by the approach roads (see image 'mrsalt84'). Then the coal was reloaded into wagons for transporting to the coaling stage (see the coal wagons above the tender) to be finally loaded into the small trucks for wheeling out and tipped into the tender. Number 711 was built by Derby works to the MR's class 2606 design in January 1902 and lasted in service until withdrawn from Derby shed in Mar 1949. Whilst it was allocated the British Railways 40711 it was never applied.
