An unidentified ex-MR 0-6-0 locomotive heads a coal train on the steeply graded Stockingford branch

An unidentified ex-MR 0-6-0 locomotive heads a coal train on the Stockingford branch, a steeply graded line to Ansley hall colliery sidings together to two other collieries and four brickworks. Peter Lee in his book 'Railways of Nuneaton and Bedworth' reports that the Stockingford branch's bridges were constructed to a light loading specification limiting the type of locomotive allowed on the branch. MR 0-6-0s were predominant although for 10 years ex-L&Y 0-6-0s were also in evidence, these being allocated to Nuneaton Trent Valley shed.
