LMS Route: Birmingham New Street to Nuneaton
Stockingford Shed: mrs402
An external view of the long closed shed with the doors now
rotten leaving the building open to the elements and intruders. The trackwork
is now long gone with mother nature reclaiming back a once sterile environment.
The grounded coach body along side the building has been removed and in a few
years there will be no evidence of the shed.
Pete Lee, in his book 'Railways of Nuneaton and Bedworth',
recounts that during the Second World War the shed was used to stable
locomotives overflowing from nearby Nuneaton Trent Valley shed. In addition the
tracks inside the shed were used to stabilise crippled wagons and even, it was
rumoured, sugar beet.
