This close up of image 'mrls302' shows just how filthy the
yard was, caused not just by the smoke from the railway, but the city's coal
fired homes, offices and factories too. The wagons in the background are
primarily open mineral wagons whilst the nearest are box vans, both being a mix
of POs (Private Owners) and several of the pre-grouping railway companies. In
the distance can just be seen the viaduct and embankment carrying the LNWR
lines between the Grand Junction and Aston.
