Ex-MR 2P 4-4-0 No 383 doubleheads LMS 5MT 4-6-0 Stanier No
5288 on an up express south of Kings Norton. The locomotive is wearing the
reporting number M24 on its smoke box. C1937
Number 383 was built by the MR to their 1808 design at
Derby in June 1888 and remained in service until withdrawn from Derby shed in
July 1952, the last of its class, to be scrapped shortly afterwards. "Black 5"
No 5288 was built by Armstrong Whitworth in December 1936 and was withdrawn
from Heaton shed, Merseyside in November 1967 before being scrapped by Drapers
of Hull in April 1968.
