Kings Norton Station: mrkn523b

Close up of image 'mrkn523' showing the additional building located on the island platform and the bracket signal controlling the right of way on to the next section of track. For use by railway staff, it has no canopy with security bars fitted to the windows and the 'borrowed' lights above the doors. The lamppost on the right appears to be electric of a design similar to that introduced from the 1930s. Jonathan Howell writes 'I can tell you that it was the Station Masters' office. I sat on the bench seat next to that building on numerous occasions as a young boy and remember it quite well. Most of the people who worked on the station at that time were only too pleased to encourage the interests of the likes of me, and would happily explain some of the things that they did. The really odd thing is that I've been back many times recently and King's Norton Station is now FAR busier than it ever was when I watched steam engines passing to and fro there. It's just a shame that they didn't save some of those fine old buildings'.
