LMS Route: Evesham to Birmingham
Kings Norton Station: mrkn522b
This close up of image 'mrkn522' shows the main station
building on the down platform built by the Birmingham and Gloucester Railway in
1849. The building would have incorporated the booking office, waiting rooms
(First, ladies and general) toilets and in all probability a porters room for
storing oil for the lamps - although those above are gas lit replacements. The
gable roofing is of a similar pattern to the brick built structure on the up
platform and also shares the intricate brickwork seen below the guttering. In
the distance is the long wide access road from Pershore Road which remained
after the station was quadrupled.
