LMS Route: Evesham to Birmingham
Evesham Station: mre561
Another view of the turntable which was located adjacent to
the Saw Mill with Briar Close Lane in background. On the Ordinance Survey map
of 1904 the buffer stop seen above did not exist as the track proceeded beyond
to the two road locomotive shed. The road seen beyond the buffers provided
access to the goods yard facilities which were located in this part of the yard
although the main goods facilities were accessed via the High Street.
The Evesham turntable was operated by using the locomotive's
vacuum braking system, the hose for connecting to the locomotive being seen
suspended from the tall pipe. This made an arduous job easier although it was
still beneficial for the engine to be stopped as central as possible to balance
the load.
