LMS Route: Evesham to Birmingham
Evesham Station: mre557
View of the southern approaches from Ashchurch with LMS
designed 2-6-0 4MT Ivatt Mogul No 43046 bringing forward empty coaching stock
into the station to form the 12 20pm Evesham to Birmingham New Street local
passenger service. The running lines on the right are the former GWR lines to
Worcester whilst the lines on the left crossing the bridge proceeded on to
Ashchurch. To the right is the BR built signal box constructed in 1957 as part
of the track modifications which provided a connection between the two routes.
In the apex of the junction can be seen the former GWR locomotive shed.
Number 43046 was built at Horwich works in October 1949 and
remained in service until withdrawn from Lostock Hall shed in November 1967 for
scrapping by the Motherwell Machinery & Scrap Co based at Inshaw Works in
February 1968.
