The MR's Central Goods facilities included a multi-storey
building which acted for both goods in transit as well as providing a storage
service for customers. The sacks shown above stacked in separate lots according
to the customer. The need to document the arrival and departure of each load
was essential and the clerks desk was sited adjacent to the crane used to lift
goods from the floor to the exit on the ground floor (or vica-versa). Note the
importance of the roof lights for creating a well lit working environment.
