LMS Route: Birmingham New Street to Nuneaton
Castle Bromwich Station: mrcb39
Ex-MR 4-4-0 2P MR class '1738' No 375 entering station with
a local Birmingham bound train comprising clerestory stock. Number 375, wearing
a number 2 shed plate in this photograph, was built in September 1886 at Derby
works and withdrawn in July 1929. 3rd June 1925
Note the water guards in front of the locomotive's bogie
wheels, an almost standard feature for MR locomotives because of the amount of
doubleheading the company adopted. The reason being was that when picking up
water from troughs the following locomotive would be drenched and there was a
danger of water entering bearings etc and causing damage.
