LMS Route: Evesham to Birmingham
Broom Junction Station: mrbj539b
Close up of image 'mrbj539' showing an unidentified ex-LMS 2-6-0
at the head of an Ashchurch train as it passes over the junction. On the right
are the sidings used to facilitate the exchange of traffic between the MR line
to Gloucester and the SMJ line to the Midlands and London. This was the
original junction installed to accommodate the SMJ entering Broom station and
the first box was named Broom South. In 1942 the need to carry wartime traffic
via the SMJ to the South West without the time consuming procedure of reversing
at Broom Junction resulted in an addition connection a little further south
from this location.
