The coaling stage at Bournville on a summer's day in 1938

The fireman is seen filling up the tender with water after trimming the bunker having taken on coal. The coaling stage at Bournville on a summer's day in 1938. This close up of part of image 'mrb9' was included to show the side of the coaling stage which in this instance was open on the side adjacent to the track. The small "drawbridge" seen on the side of the first floor was basically a device designed to carry the small coaling tubs from the loco coal wagon inside the coaling stage to directly over the locomotive's tender or bunker. The end of this device was curved both to catch the end of the coal tub's wheels and to aid the tipping of the tub into the bunker or tender.
