LMS Route: Evesham to Birmingham
Alcester Station: mra545a
Close up of image 'mr545' showing the station masters house
and the extension provided to the property. By the late 1950s prior to the
closure of the railway the accommodation was used only by one family (as
evidenced by the two bottles of milk delivered to the door step). However it
was common practice in the 19th century for such buildings to also provide
accommodation for other station staff too. The lean-to with its glass roof with
a substantial external door would indicate that it was built by the railway and
one school of thought is that it was built to allow staff other than the
station master and his family to reside inside.
