LMS Route: Evesham to Birmingham
Alcester Station: mra137
Post World War One view of the junction with the Midland
Railway's Evesham to Birmingham line showing the lifted track. During World War
One, or the Great War as it was called up to the outbreak of the Second
World War, lines with low usage often had their rail lifted for use at the
"Front" in France where hundreds of miles of track (and engines and rolling
stock) were employed to move the munitions and men required. The signals
controlling the MR line can be seen behind the hedgerow in the distance whilst
the signal box adjacent to the goods yard is on the extreme left. 21st
