View of the long abandoned second Lifford station building which closed on 28th September 1885. The station was originally opened on 1st June 1876 by the Birmingham West Suburban Railway when its original route closely followed the Worcester & Birmingham Canal to pass under the MR Camp Hill line. For reasons not known to the author, within nine years the BWSR had built a deviation which was more direct and did not pass under the Camp Hill and a third station was built at Lifford. However this station was built on the Camp Hill route and initially only served destined to enter New Street via Camp Hill. This photograph was taken on 11th September 1955.
