Ex-LMS 2-6-2T 3MT No 40078 is seen, this time viewed from the bunker, standing on shed. The pits alongside were used by the drivers to inspect underneath the locomotives as well as for firemen to rake out the fire from the firebox. Late LMS and BR locomotives were fitted with self-cleaning smokeboxes and rocking fire grates, ideas adopted from the USA Army locomotives seen in the UK during the war.
