Ex-LMS 2-8-0 8F No 48012 stands opposite ex-LNWR 'G2' 7F
0-8-0 No 49397 on shed. The open wagons on the right are well heaped with
clinker and ash resulting from the disposal of the shed's locomotives. In old
secondary sheds such as at Milverton the loading of the ash would have been
undertaken by hand, a hard and dirty job. C1950s
Number 48012 was built at Crewe in December 1936 and lasted
to the last year of steam being withdrawn in March 1968 from Edgehill shed and
scrapped at J Buttigieg of Newport in August 1968. Number 49397 was also built
at Crewe, in November 1903, and it too was retired from a Liverpool shed, in
this instance Speake Junction, in November 1959 being scrapped at Crewe works
in November 1960.
