This view of the platform taken in 1955 shows the fire damaged booking hall to have no roof. The stairs appear to have been undamaged with the lead roof still intact. The station signs are standard LNWR in design not being replaced until the station was rebuilt which was later than many other stations in the area. (1954 appears to be when most stations received the BR totem signs).

Note the bench seating provided which is very different to others found in the area. It appears to have been designed to include shelter from wind but not rain yet there is a waiting room provided in the platform structure just seen on the right. The porter's barrow would seem to indicate that parcel and luggage traffic was still handled at the station.
