Looking towards Aston in 1955 with the main station building
housing the booking office and suspended above the centre two lines damaged by
fire. The original 1869 station was of a design similar to that found elsewhere
on the LNWR in the county at Stetchford on the London to Birmingham Route and
Shilton and Brinklow on the Trent Valley line although this structure is built
in brick whilst the others were of timber.
The presence of sleepers on the platform on the left and
flower bed on the right would seem to indicate that that only two of the four
platforms were in use by 1955. The left hand platform was an island and remains
the surving platform today as can be seen at Andy Doherty's web sitewww.railaroundbirmingham.com.
