The photograph captures a moment in time of the social evolution of Britain with West Indian migrant workers now becoming evident in the railway's work force. The cattle dock fencing still remains whilst above the buffer stop is a light weight temporary fence which was removed to allow the lorries to tip the swarf into the mineral wagons.
