LMS Route: Rugby to Wolverhampton

Ex-LMS 0-6-0 4F No 44444 starts a down freight out of the sidings near the site of Soho station in June 1961. The first vehicle behind the tender is one of the converted tenders used by the LMS (later BR(M)) to carry the locomotive sludge from Bescot for disposal.

Number 44444 was built by Crewe works in December 1927 and ran for another two years in service before being withdrawn from Springs Branch shed at Wigan in September 1963 to be scrapped by Horwich works in October 1963.
