LMS Route: Leamington to Weedon
Southam & Long Itchington Station: lnwrs&l1323
Looking towards Weedon with the cement works in the
distance. The station was originally built with a passing loop creating the
impression that the station was sited on a double tracked route. The buildings
on both lines were reasonably substantial when compared to others along the
route.
We can only suppose that the presence of the cement works
must have had some influence, possibly because the LNWR anticipated high volume
of passengers from the cement factory workers and the nearby local villages. At
a later date the far building was demolished indicating that the volume of
passengers never achieved the anticipated levels.
