Ex-LMS 2-6-0 'Crab' No 42854 and unidentified locomotives,
ex-WD 2-8-0, ex-LMS Stanier 2-6-0 'Mogul' and ex-LMS 4-6-0 Stanier Black 5
stand on the approach roads outside the shed. Number 42854 was built at Crewe
works in March 1930 and remained in service until November 1963 when it was
withdrawn from Birkenhead shed for scrapping at Crewe works in December
1963.
